Internships Student internships may be an effective and relatively inexpensive way of furthering local preservation activities. Students pursuing degrees in historic preservation and related fields may be helpful in survey and designation, design review, technical assistance, and public relations efforts. Columbia University Students enrolled in the graduate program in historic preservation are required to participate in an internship. Some students may be available through a federally funded work-study program. Cornell University Graduate students in historic preservation, landscape architecture, and planning, are available for summer employment. Generally, this is done between a student’s first and second years of study and is often out-of-state.
