Development Director

Status
This is a full-time exempt position, that can be remote, hybrid, or in-office, depending on the right candidate based in New York State. The salary range is $85,000-$95,000 plus benefits.

Position Description
The Preservation League of New York State is seeking an experienced, energetic, creative staff leader to direct all aspects of the League’s fundraising operations. The position develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support for the organization. The Development Director will represent the League to potential and current donors, trustees, foundations, corporations, and the public at large. This position requires an individual with strong fundraising and marketing experience who is a collaborative problem solver. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and effective communicator, capable of working under tight deadlines, and a good fit with the League’s staff and organizational culture. The Director must have the ability to successfully promote the League and its programs to a diverse audience. This position reports to the Preservation League President and is supported by a full-time Fundraising Database Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the League’s annual $1.7M fundraising program as well as current and future capital campaigns and special fundraising projects. This includes but is not limited to grant writing and management, corporate and foundation giving, individual giving, annual appeal development and management, and special events.

  • Collaborate closely with the trustees, the President, committees, staff, and others to develop fundraising strategies and goals that align with the organization’s mission and five-year plan.

  • Identify, research, cultivate, and solicit individual, corporate, and foundation gifts through personal visits and written proposals.

  • Initiate, plan, and manage all fundraising and cultivation activities including the annual gala, special donor gatherings, and the statewide tour program.

  • Oversee the work of the Fundraising Database Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in fundraising/development and a proven track record of successfully implementing fundraising plans and creating engaging special events.

  • Outstanding relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Creativity and the ability to be a self-starter.

  • Ability to effectively multi-task under tight deadlines.

  • Proven experience managing staff and effectively working with colleagues.

  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Confident budgeting and financial analysis skills.

  • Strong grant writing skills.

  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fundraising software and Microsoft Suite.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
