Friends of Tug Urger

The school district employee from Albion. Current and former canallers. Students from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. And a man who spent 14 years as Tug Urger's engineer. For three days at the Waterford Tugboat Roundup, we were nearly overwhelmed by the passionate support people feel for this vessel with an uncertain future.

Many people who came to sign the petition to #SaveTheUrger and #KeepCanalBoatsAfloat had seen a letter to the editor in the Times Union on Saturday (thanks, Steve Sevits!) Many more will see the front-page article in the Times Union today, State reconsidering fate of historic canal tugboat, other vessels, but we need to keep the pressure on!

Please sign the petition today! If you’ve already added your name, we thank you, and ask you to send this link (www.preservenys.org/save-the-urger) to anyone who may be interested in keeping the teaching tug Urger on the canal, where she belongs.

We hope you’ll join the Preservation League to help save even more of New York’s historic treasures like Tug Urger. Click here to learn more!

PS: Want to listen to a short interview about why the Urger is important, or see more of the National Register-listed Fireboat John J. Harvey? Check out the videos we just posted!
