A Visit to the NYBG Holiday Train Show

For the last two years our family has visited the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden. Last year we became members of the Garden, which gave us the opportunity to attend this year. Due to COVID capacity restrictions only members can attend the Train Show this year (for free, great perk!). It’s back in the gorgeous Enid A. Haupt Conservatory this year and with restricted tickets, so we could really enjoy the models. I had fun pointing out the Preservation League Excellence in Historic Preservation Award winners featured, as well as landmark buildings of all types (from St Bart's to the Little Red Lighthouse). But my favorites are always the bridges. Even without the train show, the Garden was really lovely to walk through — not too crowded and easy to keep one’s distance. In this time of social distancing, a botanical garden is a welcome refuge and lovely place to spend time. A small slice of masked normalcy for the holiday season.
