Gratz Grant - Kirkland Art Center

A view of the Kirkland Art Center from the Clinton Village Green.

The Kirkland Art Center (KAC) is an active, multi-regional arts center established in 1960. Their mission is to educate children and adults, to advocate for artists and the arts, and to engage the community in a range of cultural experiences and opportunities. Housed in an 1843 former Methodist Church, the Kirkland Art Center sits in a prominent location within the Clinton Village National Register Historic District in Oneida County.

The Preservation League has worked with KAC for years providing technical assistance on grant applications. The art center most recently reached out with a need for an engineering structural analysis. They propose a structural study of the roof and steeple as part of their roof replacement campaign, working with March Associates and preservation architects Crawford & Stearns. This project will cost $10,100 including professional fees and a lift to access the steeple.

The League is proud to provide funding for this project through our Donald Stephen Gratz Preservation Services Fund, with a $9,600 grant award.

“The Kirkland Art Center plays a vital role in the Mohawk Valley,” said League President Jay DiLorenzo. “Their Raise the Roof Campaign and the structural study of the roof and steeple will ensure their historic building remains a fixture of the Clinton community for many years to come. The League is pleased to help fund this important work through our Donald Gratz Preservation Services Fund.”
