Event Recap: 2019 Pillar Gala

On Wednesday, June 12, we honored two great preservation partnerships with a lively celebration at the Rainbow Room in NYC. Our annual Pillar Gala brought together hundreds of preservationists and League supporters to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Gregory Long and Janet Ross (left) and Anne Walker and Peter Pennoyer (right).

Gregory Long and Janet Ross have had a long and fruitful relationship working together in support of one of New York’s foremost cultural institutions — the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. Long served as president and CEO of that institution for nearly 30 years. Ross, following on the philanthropy and belief shared with her late husband, has supported the Garden for many years, both as a donor and board member. Her financial support and Long’s vision have helped the Garden become one of the premier botanical gardens in the world.

Anne Walker and Peter Pennoyer have collaborated since 2000 on a series of beautiful and scholarly books spotlighting historic American architecture. Together they have written: The Architecture of Delano & Aldrich, The Architecture of Warren & Wetmore, Building Details, The Architecture of Grosvenor Atterbury, New York Transformed: The Architecture of Cross & Cross, and Harrie T. Lindeberg and the American Country House.

We were thrilled the recognized the wonderful contributions all four of these individuals have made for the preservation community. They truly are pillars of New York.
