Re: Northeast Regional Initiative for the Preservation Trades
Call for Consultant Services
The Preservation League of New York State “League” is seeking a qualified consultant to survey existing preservation trades training activities in the Northeast as part of the Northeast Regional Initiative for the Preservation Trades. This program is a four-state partnership between the Preservation League of New York State, Preservation Trust of Vermont, the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, and Maine Preservation and is funded by a grant from the Moe Family Fund for Statewide and Local Partners through the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Program Description
This four-state research initiative will develop recommendations for how our statewide preservation nonprofit organizations in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, can work collaboratively to advance the training and placement of workers skilled in the preservation trades. The results of the consultant’s work will be used to guide future investments made by our organizations in the most effective and needed training and placement models.
Consultant Scope of Work and Timeline
The consultant will investigate obstacles and opportunities to advancing preservation trades particular to our rural northeastern border region. The consultant will survey existing trades training initiatives in our states, review the work of our state and national partners in this area, and speak with professionals in the field. The consultant’s final report, due in the summer of 2022, will be used to guide future investments made by our organizations in the most effective and needed training and placement models. Our findings will support and complement the work in other states and of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) and the National Preservation Partners Network (NPPN).
Specific tasks include:
Survey of existing trades training initiatives in our four states to include interviews with stakeholders, contractors and participants, as well as data compilation and analysis related to impact and success. (Winter 2021)
Connect to other statewide & national initiatives that address the issues of preservation trades training. (Winter/Spring 2021)
Hold facilitated discussions with partners and additional stakeholders to develop short and longterm recommendations. (Spring 2022)
Develop a final report to include an assessment of the impact of current initiatives and recommendations for advancing the most effective and sustainable programs in the Northern Forest region. The report will include evaluation tools for future initiatives built on existing workforce indicators that are right sized for our region. (Summer 2022)
Deliverable
The final report for this project should include an Executive Summary of Findings and Recommendations along with a more comprehensive presentation of survey results, data, outreach, research, and recommendations.
