Central Tech Through Bruce Harvey's Lens

Bruce Harvey is a historian and documentation photographer based in Syracuse. The League has been lucky to work with Bruce on documenting our Seven to Save sites in the past (he documented those endangered sites in 2016 and 2018), and when we were able to set up a socially distanced site visit to Syracuse Central Tech, we invited Bruce to join us. His method of documentary photography adheres to the Secretary of the Interior’s Historic American Buildings Survey/Historian American Engineering Record standards. (The HABS/HAER collections held by the Library of Congress are worth looking through, if you’re so inclined.) This is not point-and-shoot photography. Bruce works with a modern wooden field camera, shooting 4x5 format black and white film.

We were pretty excited to see what he was able to capture at Central Tech, and we think you will be, too.
