Technical Talk: National Register Districts

As part of our Sparking Recovery Through Preservation webinar series, we welcomed Katie Comeau from Bero Architecture to talk about National Register Districts — what they are, and what their benefit is.

Katie discusses myths and facts about National Register listing, the difference between being listed on the National Register and local designations, starting the process of of listing a district, and more. Check out her talk here, and learn why she says being included on the National Register is an “all carrot, no stick” situation.

And if you’re interested in how the League could support your own effort to designate a historic district, check out our Preserve New York grant program!

This webinar was presented in partnership with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, the American Planning Association, New York Upstate Chapter, and Preservation Association of the Southern Tier. This series was funded in part by a grant from the John E. Streb Fund for New York of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, with additional support from the Corning Incorporated Foundation.
