Mapped: Opera Houses of New York State

Back in September, we shared an update from Greg Socinski, who had been interning with the League to complete a survey of extant opera houses in New York. We’re happy to report that the initial survey is complete and Greg created a handy map that plots out all of New York’s existing opera houses (that we know of), including photos and location details when available.

If you know of an opera house in your community that isn’t listed here, please let us know!

A map providing location and information on extant opera houses within New York state. Researched, surveyed and compiled by Greg Socinski in association with Preservation League of New York.

Greg Socinski interned with the Preservation League of NYS to create a comprehensive database of extant historic opera houses throughout the state. This internship project was underwritten by the Arthur F. and Alice E. Adams Foundation. In 2018-2019, Historic Opera Houses were included on our biennial Seven to Save list of at-risk historic places. This project is a continuation of work that began during that Seven to Save cycle.
