Please note: As of 2026, the Preservation League’s NYSCA regrants have been consolidated and reorganized under the umbrella of Preserve NY Arts + Culture, with two discrete grant programs: 1. Support for Pre-Construction Studies and 2. Support for Arts-Based Community Preservation Projects.

The Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) program is a partnership between the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the Preservation League of New York State, made possible by NYSCA with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area provided additional support for projects within the National Heritage Area boundary.

The TAG Program provided support for targeted planning studies or analyses of New York State’s historic resources that serve an arts and/or cultural function. TAG funded consulting reports only, completed by architects, engineers and/or other design and preservation professionals. These grants did not fund capital construction costs, architectural plans and specifications, schematic designs, or construction documents.

Support provided by TAG since its launch in 2012 totals $743,970. These grants have directly advanced the efforts of 230 preservation projects.
