On Monday, November 3, we gathered in Midtown Manhattan for a celebratory evening in honor of the 2025 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award winners. It was an incredibly inspiring event, with over 150 attendees on hand to celebrate the incredible achievements of this year’s Awardees. As League President Jay DiLorenzo said as he kicked off the Awards presentation, “Our annual Excellence Awards are always a highlight because of how clearly they demonstrate the impact preservation can have in communities both big and small. Reinvigorating old buildings and stewarding places of cultural importance is a way to build a stronger society and support the people who call these places home. We are endlessly inspired by the incredible work being done across the state, and I am sure that you will leave here tonight feeling inspired as well.”

In her introduction to the evening, Awards Jury Chair Caroline Pasion said, “The 2025 Awardees represent how historic preservation addresses critical issues, including providing affordable housing, boosting economic development, and uplifting communities. Each Award winner has had a tremendous impact on a local level, but their work is relevant far beyond that. Our winners represent examples of the power of individual action – with two people whose decades of dedication to preservation have had profound effects across our state; placemaking efforts, where preservation projects can help build community and rebuild community trust; the vital role preservation plays in creating affordable housing, where we see collaborative and creative solutions that turn vacant buildings into homes; and the incredible power of adaptive reuse more broadly, an important tactic to combat climate change by reusing what we have while bringing historic places into the 21st century.”
